event episode
Nineteen years ago, a baby girl was the sole survivor of a plane crash. The press named her Heaven, because it seemed like she had fallen from the sky, and people around the world began calling her the "lucky princess." She was adopted by the Kogo family, one of the most powerful in Japan, and grew up in a privileged home with her adoptive brother, Hiko.
But that was then.
Now Heaven (Jamie Chung) stands in her family's San Francisco apartment, about to marry Teddy Yokimoro, a man she doesn't love. More a merger than a marriage, the wedding is her dad's way of uniting the Kogo and Yokimoro families. Heaven knows her life is about to change, but she has no idea just how much.
In a matter of moments, her wedding is disrupted by ninjas and she's reunited with her brother, only to see him die in her arms -- the victim of a ninja's blade. Heaven runs, and she wanders into a house where she meets Cheryl (Saige Thompson) and Otto (Kyle Labine), two unlikely heroes who help her find Hiko's oldest friend, Jake Stanton (Brendan Fehr). Heaven hopes that Jake, a master sensei, can help her find the truth.
The road to the truth is treacherous, and Heaven soon learns there's an ancient legend at the center of the mystery. It tells of a young girl who falls from the sky and grows up to be a great warrior. Aided by friends from a foreign land, the girl saves everyone around her before she's betrayed and killed. Is Heaven the girl of the legend? Filled with doubt, she's certain of only one thing -- if the legend is right, she'd better learn how to use her family's ancestral sword, the Whisper of Death.
Meanwhile, Heaven's father, Kogo (Anthony Wong), is on a search of his own -- a dangerous quest that claims the lives of everyone who stands in his way.
Heaven trains with Jake and proves to have natural talent, which comes in handy when they face the assassin who killed Hiko. Heaven wounds the assassin, but he disappears, leaving behind his cell phone. When Heaven hits "last number dialed," she hears something that chills her to the bone: her father's voice saying, "What's the problem?"
Heaven is more confused than ever. Jake urges her to listen to Hiko and run away. Then she meets a mysterious government agent named Severin (Steven Brand), who tells her that her father is a high-level member of the Yakuza crime organization, and that Hiko had been working to bring him to justice. Severin asks Heaven to take Hiko's place and help him. After much soul-searching, Heaven decides to work with Severin -- not to prove her father's guilt, but to prove his innocence.
Going against her friends' warnings, Heaven calls her father and tells him she's coming home. What he doesn't realize is that Heaven won't be returning as the little girl he once knew.
Goodbye, princess. Hello, Samurai Girl.
