Trudie (Melissa Joan Hart) is a young woman with a funky, artistic sense of style and a gung-ho creative spirit. After blowing an interview at a "real" (read soul-crushing) job, disappointing her parents yet again, and after getting dumped by her preppie, superficial boyfriend, Trudie suffers a spontaneous breakdown. She kidnaps a handsome stranger, David Martin (Mario Lopez) at the restaurant where she works, with the sole (and admittedly ill-advised) purpose of bringing him home for Christmas and introducing him to her family as "the one."
Understandably, as being kidnapped wasn't on his Christmas Eve "to do" list, David is a bit cranky about the situation. But call it Christmas magic, call it Stockholm Syndrome, over the course of the next few days, Trudie and David actually start to like each other. Between pranks and mutual humiliation, they uncover the truth about each other's lives and find an awkward attraction growing between them. The road to kidnapping never runs smooth, but this one has some surprises in store along the way.
