Kris decides to stay at Raintree and, for the first time, she feels like she's back home. She and Matt have two horses in an upcoming race. Wildfire is doing well. And Jean is warming up to her. In fact, Jean even invites her to live at Raintree again. Everything is the way it should be – except she and Junior aren't together. But Kris is convinced that they aren't meant to be – much to Junior's dismay and Matt's delight.
Race day arrives, and a Raintree horses beats a horse from Davis Farms. Junior congratulates Matt, and the old friends joke about how they're always competing for something, but just who will win the one prize they both want more than anything else?
Back home, Kris and Jean watch the race together on TV and it feels like old times. Over at Davis Farms, however, things aren't so cozy. Ken tries to persuade Dani to come back to racing, but she refuses. She even calls him on pitting her and Junior against each other for the role of heir to the Davis Empire. She means every word she says, but when Ken offers her a filly she has her eyes on, Dani looks like she just might waver.
After the races, Junior drives Matt home, and when he sees him with Kris he's convinced they're back together. Junior goes home dejected until he runs into Pablo, who lays it on the line. "You love her," Pablo says, "Then do something about it."
So it's later, and Kris is in the stables with Wildfire when she senses someone there. It's Junior. He pours his heart out to her and, just when he thinks she's going to turn away, she kisses him and tells him that she loves him too. No more being apart, they decide. No more choosing family over each other. No more waiting. Life's too short. Junior asks her to marry him, and she accepts. They decide to elope and plan to meet outside Raintree's gates. Kris waits for him, but he's not there. Has he changed his mind? Then she hears the familiar roar of his car. She jumps in and off they ride. But will they really go through with it? And what will it mean to everyone around them if they do?
