Wildfire's missing, and Kris feels like she's the only one who really cares. She gets a tip about a ranch that might be hiding stolen horses, and runs off to check it out. She searches the ranch to no avail, and she's just about to break open a lock when she gets caught in a truck's headlights. Is it the owners? The police? Luckily, it's Matt, Junior, and Dani. Kris is relieved to see them, but her heart sinks when she realizes that Wildfire is still nowhere to be found.
Back at Raintree, Kris is just about to lose hope when she hears something behind her. It's Wildfire, galloping towards her. He's safe. And best of all he's home. (It turns out that a ranch hand had left Wildfire's stall door open and, when he realized that Wildfire was gone, staged the scene to look like Wildfire had been stolen.)
With Wildfire back at Raintree, all attention turns to the Tucker Stakes. Matt, Jean, and Pablo think they should scratch Wildfire from the race because of what he's been through. Kris disagrees. She knows in her heart that Wildfire wants to race. He wants it as much as she does. Matt and the others come around, and it's settled. Widlfire will race, and so will Dani's Tigresse Eye.
Everything finally feels right. Then, Junior gets news that he has to go to Alaska immediately. Suddenly, Kris and Junior realize that Kris's place is at Raintree with Wildfire. Junior tells Kris that if they can survive meddling families, break-ups, make-ups, and exes, then they can survive a long-distance romance for a year. Kris replies by telling him that, from the beginning, through it all, it's always been him. They say a tearful goodbye, and Kris turns her eyes to winning the race.
Race day arrives, and Kris gets an unexpected visitor. It's Ken. He apologizes, but Kris makes it clear that she's not the one he should be apologizing to. The race begins, and Wildfire's lagging behind. Then, suddenly, he picks up speed and it's Wildfire, Tigresse Eye, and Tamarac leading the pack. They're neck and neck, until they're caught in a photo finish. A few tense moments pass, and then the race is called … Wildfire is the winner! Everyone cheers, including Junior -- who's watching the race from an airport lounge. Junior beams with pride as he watches Kris lift the trophy and say, "This is for you, Junior. I love you." Junior whispers, "I love you, too," and it looks like it's finally sunken in that he's far from where he's supposed to be.
The next day, everything seems to be back to normal, except Kris knows that something's wrong. She finally realizes she can't be without Junior. Matt gives her a smile and suggests they take one last ride around Raintree before she catches a plane to Alaska. The ride is perfect, until Matt disappears. Kris calls out for him, but instead of Matt, Pablo appears. Then Jean appears. Then Dani. They're all smiling and dressed for a wedding. Kris's wedding! Kris is speechless, and when Jean hands her the wedding gown she wore at her own wedding, Kris feels, with all her heart, that she has a family that truly loves her.
Kris is dressed in her gown. The wedding tent is aglow. Then Junior appears. But there's one last thing. Jean and Pablo give Kris a special gift. They give her Wildfire, complete with flowers in his mane. Kris is overwhelmed with gratitude, but she can't accept him because she's going to Alaska. Then Junior interjects, and before Kris can argue, he tells her that he's turned down the job. They're both staying where they belong: at home, together. They'll never have to be separated again. And neither will Kris and Wildfire. The wedding is about to start when Junior realizes that someone is missing. His dad. Ken arrives, and, at long last, father and son reconcile. Now the wedding can really begin.
The music starts. The crowd gathers. All heads turn as Jean and Pablo walk Kris down the aisle. Kris takes Junior's hand and in a single, perfect moment, surrounded by everyone she loves, all of Kris's dreams finally come true.
