It's a new morning at Raintree and with it comes a lot of changes. Matt tells Gillian that he can't be with her anymore and admits to fooling around with Kris. Gillian leaves the ranch broken-hearted and Matt is free to be with Kris. But when he tells Kris that he wants to be with her, Kris says she doesn't know what she wants.
RJ returns to Davis Farms and drops a bombshell. He tells Dani that he loves her even more than the rodeo. Stunned, Dani doesn't know what to say in return. Finally, she tells him that every time she says "I love you" things never work out right.
Back at Raintree, the Ritters feel the aftershock of Pablo's departure. Matt takes over Pablo's workload until they can find another trainer and tries to win the trust of the workers. Meanwhile, Jean meets with Pablo to give him his share of the earnings from the Gold Cup and asks him to come back. She tells him that she needs him as a trainer and as a friend, but he counters that with Matt doing such a great job he'd just be in the way.
Matt and Kris continue to dance around each other and when he accuses her of avoiding him, she tells him that no one wants their relationship to work. Not even Jean, who has warned her against having a relationship with Matt. They've already hurt Gillian and they are bound to hurt Junior, and if things don't work out Kris will have to leave Raintree and the only home she's ever known. The stakes are too high for Kris and she wants things to go back to the way they were.
At the Salcedo Valley Rodeo, RJ is about to ride when Dani breaks through the crowd with a message… she loves him too. With a sly smile, RJ says he's known all along and goes off to ride a bull named Heartless. Then something goes terribly wrong and he's thrown. The crowd goes silent. RJ doesn't move. The medics come to get him but it's too late. He's gone.
The next day at the rodeo, Junior rides the same bull and stays on longer than eight seconds as a tribute to RJ. The crowd cheers and he wins the admiration of his fellow riders. He is given RJ's hat, but it feels like a hollow victory. Back home, Junior finds Dani alone and distraught. Junior's lost his idol and Dani has lost her true love. Will they ever recover?
With a cloud hanging over everything, Kris goes into the stables and finds Pablo. She tells him that she wants things to be like they used to be and he replies that they can't be. He tells her that she belongs at Raintree and if she's honest with herself and everyone around her, everything will be alright.
With Pablo's words lingering in her ear, Kris goes to see Matt at the bunkhouse. She tells him that she's afraid to be hurt but that she really doesn't want things to be the way they were. She wants them to be better. She wants him, she says. She wants them to be together. At last Kris has made her choice.
As things begin to fall into place, a shake-up is stirring at Davis Ranch. Ken introduces Junior to their new trainer and it's none other than Pablo. What does this mean for the future of Raintree? Only time will tell.
