When a fire destroys Kris' trailer she moves into the Ritter house, which makes her extremely uncomfortable. For one thing, she's never lived with a family before and she's afraid the situation will strain her relationship with Jean even further. Kris finds a possible way out when she learns that the prize for the upcoming rodeo's team roping competition is a trailer. She enlists Matt to be her partner and they start training. Being together feels natural and familiar -- maybe a little too familiar, as it stirs up old feelings neither one knows how to handle.
Also gearing up for the rodeo is Junior who faces the hostility of the pro riders who think he's just a spoiled rich kid. Dani also tangles with a cowboy, but in a much different way. She and RJ get off to a bumpy start but there's definitely a spark between the rich heiress and the rough rider.
Back at the Ritter house, Kris doesn't know how to accept Jean's generosity and Pablo tells her that she should stop pushing people away who are trying to help. Being so close to Matt also gets more confusing and difficult. They're obviously attracted to each other. But what about Gillian? And Junior? Matt secretly feels the same way so he backs out of training Kris, who turns to Jean for help.
At the rodeo, Kris and Matt compete well together but end up losing the competition and the trailer. Junior avoids disaster when he realizes that the other rodeo riders have sabotaged his rope. He gets a new one and has a decent ride, but it isn't until RJ's turn that Junior shows what he's really made of. RJ gets his hand caught in his saddle and almost gets trampled by the bull and it's Junior who jumps in the ring to save him. Finally, Junior earns the respect of all the rodeo riders who realize he's the real deal. Meanwhile, RJ earns some attention from Dani who rushes to see if he's okay. The two exchange barbed words until RJ silences her by taking her in his arms and kissing her.
As the rodeo draws to a close, Kris thanks Jean for everything she's done for her and explains why it's so hard for her to live in the house. Jean tells her that she shouldn't think of it as living with a family. She should think of it as living with her family. Arrangements are discussed, then Matt drops a bomb: Kris can have his room because he's moving in with Gillian. Was the spark just Kris' imagination or is there really something between her and Matt? And if there is, what does that mean for Junior?
