Nearly everyone in Jake Smollett's family is an entertainer, so it made sense that he started his career early -- as a diaper model. He won his first scripted role at age 3, on "Hanging With Mr. Cooper," and not long after that, starred with his brothers and sisters in the short-lived ABC sitcom "On Our Own." Jake then worked with his sister Jurnee in "Eve's Bayou."

Jake loves classic horror and suspense movies, especially the oddball ones: "The more out there, the better!" he says. When he read the pilot script for "The Middleman," he decided it fit his criteria and decided to audition. Outside of acting, Jake supports Artists for a New South Africa (ANSA), a nonprofit organization working in the U.S. and South Africa to remedy a variety of social and political ills. Jake Smollett plays Noser, Wendy and Lacey's eccentric neighbor. A musician who lobs song lyrics at people who pass him in the hallway he rarely leaves, he's an oasis of calm in a turbulent world. Noser may venture out into the world beyond his hallway one day, but even if he doesn't, at least his chair looks comfortable.
