answering like a champion – vol. i
Posted April 30, 2008
The Insider recently got a chance to ask one of our favorite rockers, Dylan Champion, the lead singer from Shapes of Race Cars (from "Greek"), a few questions. Predictably, he answered like a real champ. Seriously, maybe you can hang out with him later, but we've got firsties.
ABC FAMILY: Do you have a musical crush? Who?
DYLAN CHAMPION: Hmmm — yes, there are a couple: Tegan and then Sara. I know it's weird cuz they're sisters or "girlfriends" or whatever they are, but there's something legit about their voices and music that's really kinda rare these days. Even if their music is not exactly what we do, me likey them. Yeah, I said, "me likey them."
Is it ok to say "likey" on ABC Family?
Oh, and also Karen O from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. It would be really fun to be locked in a posh New York hotel room with her over a rainy weekend. I know this is ABC Family, but we'd just play lots of Scrabble, read fancy magazines, write postmodern poetry, and drink Yoo-hoo.
ABCF: What's the best show you've ever played?
DC: We played a packed house at the Key Club in Hollywood recently, and I looked out while I was on stage and saw Perry Farrell (from Jane's Addiction) watching the set. Ok, he wasn't officially there to see Shapes of Race Cars — he was there to perform after our set — but he was there, close to the stage, bobbing his head and watching. This was a very cool thing.
ABCF: Any pre-show rituals?
DC: We like to pump ourselves up with ABC Family cranked to the max!!! Seriously!!
Stop by later this week to check out more of the interview, when Dylan gives us the scoop on rockstar living and some serious fanboy dreams.
What do you want to ask the SRC guys?
fit for a 'princess': room for two
Posted April 16, 2008
That cozy sound about to go running through the movie event of your weekend (not to mention your head afterward)? Why, that'll be Room For Two's breakout single, "Roots Before Branches." We think it's got a royally sweet sound. And as for the coziness, Room For Two is a classic duo (makes sense now, huh?), the married couple of Adam and Nikki Anders. Love is in the air, but it's not just the two of them -- we completely fell for the soaring vocals and slow-jamming guitar lines.
Adam and Nikki may be set to release their first album as Room For Two this summer, but they're seasoned vets in the songwriting world. The two of them have teamed up to pen hit songs for such different acts as the uber-now Ashley Tisdale and Clay Aiken, as well as the seriously old school Ace of Base and Sheryl Crow. They're even writing for movies now, and you'll be able to hear their work later this year in "High School Musical 3," "Camp Rock," "Cheetah Girls 3," and "Hannah Montana."
So this Sunday, April 20th at 8/7c, make sure you catch Room For Two in the world premiere of "Princess" on ABC Family. Or, if you can't wait, check out the "Roots Before Branches" single in the "Featured Tracks" section or on iTunes. Oh, and btdubs, we also totally love
"Be the Miracle."

plain white t's - party mix
Posted April 2, 2008
The Plain White T's are a walking, rocking contradiction. Just think about some of their best songs. "Hey There Delilah" is a sweet acoustic jam that features one guy pouring his heart out all over his guitar. Meanwhile, "Our Time Now" is a perfect specimen of alt-pop, sing-along party music. Yeah, be honest - you know you can't resist belting the "Oh-oh-oh-ohhh" part when you're alone in the car.
And it's easy to see where they got the multiple-personality thing. The guys in the band are completely eclectic!
Take De'Mar and Dave, for example: DeMar's a suave, GQ-reading fashionista, but Dave's a diehard Cubs fan in his spare time. And while Mike completely loves video games, Tom says he "stopped playing video games about when [he] started liking girls." Oh, snap! And then there's Tim, the guitarist, who came from sunny surftown Santa Barbara, CA, and had to adjust to the Chicago winters when he joined the band ... He's different from all of 'em!
All we know is, however all the different influences and parts of the band fit together, the blend is awesome.
What's your favorite Plain White T's quirk?
