Screen legend Maggie Smith began her career in the 1950s and is still going strong. She first caught the attention of American audiences with her OscarĀ®-nominated turn as Desdemona in 1965's "Othello," opposite Laurence Olivier. Four years later, she won the OscarĀ® for Best Actress in a Leading Role for "The Pride of Miss Jean Brodie." Maggie won again, this time for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, for "California Suite." She's been nominated two other times, for "Gosford Park" and "A Room with a View." Some of her other films include "Murder by Death," "Tea with Mussolini," "Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood," "Ladies in Lavender," "Becoming Jane," and the upcoming "From Time to Time" (not yet rated). As head of Gryffindor House, Professor McGonagall is in charge of Harry, Ron, and Hermione's well-being. It's not an easy job. With her keen sense of justice, she's first to defend Harry against Snape or the bullying Draco, but she's also quick to reprimand Harry when she thinks he's acted recklessly. Still, at times it seems like she wishes she could join him in his adventures. McGonagall is Dumbledore's right hand and holds a powerful position at Hogwarts, the school she loves dearly.
