The legendary Richard Harris, who died in 2002, played Dumbledore in "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" and "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets." Some of his other memorable films are "Camelot," in which he played King Arthur, "The Molly Maguires," "A Man Called Horse," "Unforgiven," "Wrestling Ernest Hemingway," "Patriot Games," "Cry, the Beloved Country," and "Gladiator." His career spanned more than 40 years, starting with his 1958 debut in an English TV "play of the week." He was also an award-winning stage actor, a successful recording artist, and a notorious rascal -- not to mention a really cool wizard. Harry's beloved mentor and headmaster of Hogwarts, Dumbledore is one of the most powerful wizards who ever lived. Yet his kind eyes and easy smile reveal a gentle heart. Wise beyond compare, Dumbledore is Harry's guardian against the evils in the world, but even he can't protect Harry from everything. He guides Harry as best he can, but there's a lot he can't -- or won't -- share with him. Dumbledore has seen a lot in his long life, but, like every great teacher, he realizes there are some lessons a pupil must learn for himself -- no matter how dangerous they are.
