An American actress among Brits in the Harry Potter films, Zoe Wanamaker is actually an honorary Briton. After spending much of her life in Britain, she was given a "Birthday Honour" in 2000. Hailing from an acting family, Zoe has been in almost 50 films and TV shows. Most recently, she's starred in the English sitcom "My Family." Her other work includes "Swept from the Sea," "Doctor Who," "Agatha Christie: Poirot," and "David Copperfield," which also starred a very young Daniel Radcliffe. Dressed in her black robes, with her whistle at the ready, Madame Hooch holds the all-important job of teaching Hogwarts students how to fly. This means just one thing to Harry: Quidditch! She also just happens to be the referee for Hogwarts Quidditch matches. In other words, Madame Hooch is something of a deity in the eyes of Hogwarts students.
