Born in France and raised in England, Emma Watson went on to play the very English Hermione Granger -- her first professional acting role. Aside from the Harry Potter films, Emma has starred in "Ballet Shoes," about three girls who have big dreams and a big problem. Next up for Emma is "The Tale of Despereaux" (not yet rated), in which she stars with Dustin Hoffman, Sigourney Weaver, Matthew Broderick, Kevin Kline, and Harry Potter cast mate Robbie Coltrane. Hermione may not be a pureblooded witch, but this Muggle-born girl's knowledge of spells, potions, and magic in general puts her classmates, especially Harry and Ron, to shame. Passionate about her studies, Hermione is just as dedicated to her friends and to fighting for what's right, whether it's battling Lord Voldemort or standing up for House Elves. She arrives at Hogwarts as a girl with her nose stuck in a book and grows into a lovely young woman, much to Ron's distraction.
