about the movie

father of the bride

George Banks (Steve Martin, "Cheaper by the Dozen") goes from being the head of the house to being a total head-case when his daughter Annie (Kimberly Williams, "According to Jim") announces she's engaged. George can't handle that his little girl is all grown up and about to get married, so he does the natural thing: He goes a little nutty.

Suddenly George is dealing with a seriously funny case of anxiety that leads him into some dicey situations -- from staking out his future in-laws' house to trying to outsmart a guard dog that's just a little too good at its job. Through it all, wife Nina (Diane Keaton, "Mad Money") is the voice of reason, full of faith that George will pull it together in time ... somehow.

Also on hand to "help" is wedding planner Franck Eggelhoffer (Martin Short, "The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause"), who has a flair for making everything just sooo dramatic. As the big day approaches, the chaos reaches critical mass. And as George prepares to give his daughter away, he learns something that's sure to stay with him forever. (1991)
